Adding Ambient Sound

Before I even thought about creating my own sounds I wanted to add sound to the overall environment piece, something that will conform to the idea of it being in a rural area. After getting some advice and inspiration from artist in a previous project, this was an idea that stuck. As I wanted rural sounds, I found it rather hard to gather an ambient feel as all free stock sounds I found were quite generic and felt too clean to hear.

Even though I wasn't quite confident I decided to go to a sound workshop to understand equipment and possible use of softwares. After this I felt more at ease of the decision to record sounds for an ambient feel.

I rented out a boom mic, zoom recorder and headphones and visited my parents as they live in a rural setting. I had a walk around and was able to record some water down a steam and bird sounds. Unfortunately due to the weather I rented my equipment it was raining so it meant I had limited time to gain some recordings.

I think that the overly of the birds and stream and maybe rain (dependant on effects if I have enough time) will be quite nice and give a fuller feel to the ambient sound.

I am thinking of overlaying sound over imagery or render animation in adobe and once the project is completed try and experiment with the sound in Unreal Engine.
