As I am very familiar with Autodesk Maya I decided upon myself to explore and briefly experiment with the lighting. As my work was more for a show reel I did not need anything drastic to emphasis a mood in the scene so needed a nice simple lighting system that would show my objects in selected turnarounds and also my full environment.
One set up I liked was using three area lights with all angled in a way to see everything; one angled upwards form below lighting the front of the props, one above to the left highlighting slightly forward and then one to the right above the props slightly back. This help light up everything and I could explore with different colour, intensity etc.
The other idea for light was to apply an spot light with a area light below. This is something I would most likely use for an overall environment that appears to be floating, so you can see the details from above and below.
Depending on what time of day it is I am debating whether I should create lighting in the house (sort of light a night light) it would emit a nice glow and give a sense to the audience that someone is in the house. Similar to this I was also debating whether to a little light in the car instead (almost like getting checking they got everything before going inside of the bungalow).
As I am wanting to create a day scene and not a night scene this will not be useful for myself.
This is something I will be going back to as I am wanting to create an environment piece showing different times of day in a looped animation piece.
If I were to come back to this I would like to venture to explore more 'man made' lighting to emphasis a piece.
