As I am a newbie when it comes to Blender I thought I would give myself some time to grasp some aspects of software. While learning I have decided to download in on to my Macbook to help with workflow and to test at home as my computer is not currently set up. When starting with a few online tutorials I realised that a little occured while learning, I was using MacOS while the tutorials was on windows. It became hard to folllow as many used hot keys to speed up the process instead of move and click, I have gone through the Blender website as well as googling to find the correct keys for MacOs. I managed to find a list that shows both Windows and MacOs operating systems, I have written them in my notebook for future reference ready for my next assignment when I fully delve into the software.
I went through the basics of each stage and followed a tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OVvnOh2ZGk&ab_channel=KaizenTutorials
the tutorial consisted of using a graphics tablet and I was using a mouse so wasn't able to follow thoroughly but it gave me a good understanding of the basic skills and how to hand paint in the software
Might consider modelling in Maya then importing the model to blender in order to sculpt or paint.
After going through the tutorial and playing around with modelling I have come to the decision of sticking to Blender when it comes to modelling as it will be more efficient for my next assignment which consists of modelling and texturing. Also when transferring a Maya file, for some reason my uv's kept playing up, this is another factor to my decision.
After some practice I have decided to try different aspects of blender, as you can see I have created some grass.
Followed a simple tutorial online (youtube https://youtu.be/RFFPtB5UAlE)
Tested the tutorial with two different grass designs in procreate; one from scratch and the other using a brush I downloaded.
For still images this will good when showing an environment. Will need to look at how to blend blades of grass into the plane below to make a a better transition between the two.
I am wanting to have movement within the environment for portfolio piece so will have to look into this further on how to create slight movement of the grass and also interactions with objects in the scene, this will more likely happen in the following project as current assignment is still trial and error.
