As the story is now near finalising I think its best to properly look into the characters properly, I have been designing throughout but this is now the best opportunity to finalise and complete. First character I think will be good to look at is Kitty the cat. Kitty is a very loving and caring character that is full of life and is the sole reason colour is in the young woman's life (will look at her designs next).
Before the designing the character I have been watching my own cats as well as taking videos and pictures of how they are and how they interact with me.
The first design I did for Kitty made her look quite large without much shape to the face or the body of the character. After going away from the concept and going back to it I decided to change the design slightly, having the character this character quite 'chunky' it may become complex when it comes to the modelling, texturing and rigging/animating the character i.e. trying to place fur, potential creases in places they shouldn't be due to the size of the limbs.
The newer and final design i decided to go with for Kitty are altered to 'future proof' it for when it comes to production stages. I slimmed down the character so the body and head has more shape and is less rounded. I kept the same coat pattern to the previous design as it resembles my own cat and has some meaning to me. As Kitty is a girl I have added a pink collar to resemble this, even though this isn't really needed it will be a nice touch and will show that she has an owner. I have also decided to keep the eyes round and completely black, this keep to a nice stylised feel but I have more of a practical reason to do this. As I am more aimed towards environments (previously explained) I believe when it comes to animating it wont be as hard to create as they are heavily stylised and can change shape to express emotions via blend shapes within Maya software.
