Planning the Environment - The Layout

Before I decided to design the props/elements for the bedroom I decided to create a nice basic layout of potentially what a cat loving person's bedroom would look like. Other than the ordinary things such as a bed and bedside tables etc, it always needed thing such as a cat bed and toys and little areas where the cat may want to sleep. From my own experience, I know that cats don't always sleep in their bed, they choose whatever is comfy i.e a blanket tucked away or even a pile of clothes. I have also looked into what other extras the character might have in the bedroom. As the young woman suffers from anxiety also maybe she has things to distract her inside, such as a sketchbook, a tv and maybe a game console.

As I want the props within the scene to make more of an impression I decided to keep a basic rectangular shape for the bedroom, I was considering to be angular as if the bedroom was in the attic but this would not make any difference to the story.

As you can see below I have created a base template of how I would like every prop/item to be (when it comes to production some items may need to be moved for more visually appealing scenes and so everything can be within shot). As the young woman is in a low mood at the start I thought I should show how she feels (doesn't want to do anything) by a pile of clothes that seems to be building and maybe her backpack overflowing because she doesn't sort or empty her bag much from rubbish, I know this may seem like little things but I think this will make a big impact when you eventually see the environment. As she is very much a cat lover and adores her best friend, she has a little basket for cat toys, some toys scattered across the floor and maybe an electrical one as well to keep Kitty occupied. Kitty has a few options to sleep, a cat bed, a window seal, the pile of clothes or maybe a blanket under one of the bedside tables.

I am very happy with the layout of the room as I can now I can focus fully on the prop design for the project.
