Prop Designs - The Back Garden

I want the final piece to be in a rural setting and have decided to have the garden slightly larger than majority, this is so I can experiment more on props. The props I have been thinking to add are a bird feeder/bath, tree, bench, vegetable patch, table and chairs and potted plants. I think it will be best to keep the central area clear as it would be unrealistic to have the whole back garden covered in props.

I wanted to create a unique green house. I really like how the rounded shape gives a uniqueness to it. I have added a stain glass window to the piece. the reason behind this because I was thinking of the overall feel when it comes to the final rendered environment, this could give me a chance to play around with texture and also some different experimental lighting.

I think having a vegetable patch will be nice addition to the back garden, this can present a safe and calming space. the vegetable patch is practical in design with stone or slabs going through the centre so the vegetables can be picked without walking over them. I wasn't going to add a small fence around but I chose to add for practicality, something that can stop some animals eating the produce.

As the character loves animals so adding things such as bird feeders for the wildlife that enters the garden is a great thing to add. The free standing feeder I have chosen a wrap of a fake plant, this is so it wont deteriorate. I really like the idea of a chipped tea pot missing its lid and some old colourful mugs to add character to the piece.

As I already have a bench within the catio I wasn’t too sure whether to add a second, unless it was a lot different in design. The final concept the bench is of a single seat and is supported by chains to a wooden frame. To add connection the chair is also wooden. I've placed a fitted cushion on the back and on the seat so it would be somewhere comfortable to sit.

I wanted a space where the character would sit in her garden while eating or maybe some creative work, a table and chairs. I looking at designs that could work with either metal or wood as the texture and decided on a decorative metal piece. The table pattern has a daisy themed light grey/white metal, something that you could connect the character as some interior design from the previous project had daisies on. The chairs are a quite standard , something that could be folded up if needed to, no need for complexity but practicality. I really like the contrasts of the twos shape really complement each other.

As the environment as a whole will have a rural feel with woodlands and a water stream, I wanted to make the tree that would necessarily blend with the natural look. As you can see from my sketches I was originally looking at a traditional feel, it felt too common and not creative so I thought maybe I should add shape to form a silhouette. The story behind was I thought the owner may want to shape the tree by trimming and cutting, I decided upon the creating a cat shaped tree.

Concluding My Work

After the animation exploration assignment this was an extension upon that, mainly focussing on the external environment and props. A lot...
